Douglas L. “Doug” Johnson died unexpectedly on Tuesday May 8th , 2007 after collapsing at his Lynn home and rushed to Union Hospital, Lynn. Doug was born on August 10th , 1943 and raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1961. Shortly after high school graduation, he entered the “Apprenticeship Program” at General Electric and rose to the rank of Manufacturing Engineer. He retired in 2004, and then reentered the work force, recently as a consultant at Belcan Corp.
Doug was the quintessence of what a “family man” was. He was most devoted to his wife of 42 years , Cabrini F. “Cabby” (Sarno) Johnson and to his three children, Jacqueline C. Smart and her husband Joseph, of Lynn, Son, Ralph D. Johnson of West Peabody amd Stephanie M. Pettipas of Lynn. He was also the cherished grampy of Olivia A. Johnson, Alyssa M. Pettipas, James E. Pettipas and Anthony J. Smart. He was also the loving brother of David Johnson and his wife, Alice of South Mills, NC, Evelyn Moore and her husband Rev. Robert Moore of Acton, Ma and Anita Lapointe and her husband, Douglas of Beverly, Ma. He also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Doug was a longtime member and past president of the Holy Name Society of St Francis of Assisi Parish of Lynn, Ma. He was also Past Grand Knight and member of the Lynn Council, Knights of Columbus. He was also a member and past president of the Planners Union Local #149 at G.E. An avid golfer and bowler, he also enjoyed landscaping. Recently, since his son’s acquisition of the Quinlan Memorials Company in Wakefield, Ma serving as secretary and treasurer.
Service Information: Visiting hours will be held of Friday May 11th from 4-8 pm. In the Vertuccio Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) , Revere. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday may 12th at 9:30 am. from the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, Saugus, at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In Lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Douglas L. Johnson / Quinlan Memorials Educational Foundation 151 Foundry St. Wakefield, Ma 01880
