Obituary

PHILIPSBURG-John H. Springer, 58, of 217 N. Seventh St., Philipsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 12, (1985) at 11 a.m. at Centre Community Hospital, State College.  Born Oct. 5, 1926 in Lock Haven, he was the son of William C. and Ilse (Roer) Springer.  On July 25, 1948 he married the former Barbara George, who survives with his mother of Philipsburg.  ; one son, Paul of Philipsburg; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Illy)T. Entenmann of Dallas, TX; and one granddaughter, Dana.  He was preceded in death by his father.  Mr. Springer was the former owner of Philipsburg Marble & Granite Works.  An Eagle Scout, he was a 1944 graduate of Philipsburg High School and Attended Gettysburg College.  He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.  He was a member and past deacon and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Philipsburg, a past member of the Philipsburg Chamber of Commerce and the Philipsburg Rotary Club and a former co-chairman of the Heart Fund.  A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Philipsburg tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Revs. David P. Kyler, Carl C. Gray, Clarence Schnars and Bobby Bell officiating.  Interment will be on the family plot in the Philipsburg Cemetery.  There will be no public visitation.  The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society; Centre Co. Kidney Association;  Centre Community Hospital; 1st Presbyterian and 1st Lutheran Church, both of Philipsburg.  The David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
