Obituary

Arlene Helen Ward, age 91 of New Cumberland and formerly of Port Orange and S. Daytona FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the West Shore Hospital. Born March 2, 1932, in Tower City, PA, Arlene was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Naravas) Dougal.

While residing in Florida, Arlene was employed as a waitress. Locally she was a former employee in the produce department at Weis Markets in Mechanicsburg. Arlene was a dedicated and loyal employee working until the age of 77. Arlene was a member of the Moose Lodge in Pennsylvania and Daytona Beach, FL and enjoyed flowers, gardening, butterflies, traveling, reading newspapers, lighthouses and the ocean.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Carpenter A. Ward, her three siblings Joseph Dougal, Jr., Larry Fessler, and Alice Haddock and by her son in law Donald Thornhill. Surviving are her two children Timothy A. Ward of New Cumberland and Janet Thornhill of Mechanicsburg, the father of her grandchildren Donald Bricker, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. Burial will take place in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
