Obituary

Leonard Jennings "Pete" Fulcher, 70, of 153 Kenilworth Avenue, died Thursday September 2, 1993 after a decline in health of several years.

Born October 22, 1922, he was the son of Percy O. Fulcher and Belvah Terry Fulcher.

He was retired president and owner of Fulcher Insurance, now Scott Insurance.

He was graduated from the University of Cincinnati Aviation Cadet School and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Corps, serving as a flight instructor during World War II. Following an honorable discharge in 1945, he served in the Air Force Reserve as a 1st Lieutenant.

He was vice president and sales manager of Link-Watson Corporation prior to purchasing Virginia Hardware in 1958. In 1965 he sold the hardware store and bought Oscar G. Evans Insurance Agency and founded Fulcher Insurance which was sold in 1980.

He was also a Dale Carnegie Instructor and taught sales and public speaking throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

He was a member of West Main Street Baptist Church, Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge, Danville Scottish Rights body and the Danville Shrine Club. He was active in the local Democratic Party and was a former member of the Sertoma Club and the Elks Club.

He was married to Edith Crawley Fulcher who died in 1990.

Survivors include one son, Leonard J. Fulcher Jr. of Danville; two daughters, Linda F. Porter of Danville and Julia F. Robertson of Winston Salem North Carolina; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and R.M. "Marty" Oakes of Hickory North Carolina.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00pm today at West Main Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Leonard J. Fulcher Jr., 135 Clarendon Circle.
