Obituary

Brandon Joyner, 21, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 in Mason City.

He was born Brandon Reese Joyner on April 5, 2005, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, to Gregory and Jill Joyner. Brandon grew up in Mason City, where he graduated from Mason City Alternative School. He went on to work at Culver’s before spending the last few years as an employee at Woodharbor in Mason City where he made many friends and acquaintances.

Sometimes thought of as an “old soul,” Brandon had a deep appreciation for music, especially hits from the 1980s and 1990s, and was teaching himself to play the piano and guitar. His thoughtful nature, kindness, and compassion left a lasting impression on those who knew him and he had a special bond with his younger siblings, always taking his role as an older brother to heart—supportive, protective, and proud.

Brandon had a love for history, particularly the Civil War, and enjoyed spending time learning, exploring the past, and visiting museums. Always curious, Brandon was eager to expand his horizons. He also found joy in hunting, gaming on his PlayStation—simple moments that brought him happiness.

He will be remembered for the quiet way he made others feel valued and understood.

Brandon will be greatly missed by his parents, Jill Joyner and Alan Cooper and Greg Joyner; his siblings, Jayden and Chloe Joyner, and Ferryn and Kira Cooper; grandparents, Dee Raprager and Gloria and Brian Moudry; aunts and uncles, Tim (Tammy) Joyner, Kristen (Jack) Ward, and Scott Moudry; many cousins and extended relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandpas, Doug Joyner and Butch Raprager; brother, Garret Joyner; uncle, Doug Joyner; great grandma Ruth Redeker; and great uncle, Bruce Moudry.
