Obituary

OTTOVILLE – Dorothy L. Altenburger, 94, of Ottoville died at 8:34 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at Van Crest of Delphos. She was born January 26, 1918 in Ottoville to the late Joseph and Theresia (Becker) Schlagbaum.  On February 16, 1946 she married Hubert S. “Hups” Altenburger. He died March 25, 2006.

    She is survived by her 3 sons: Jack (Barb) Altenburger of Toledo, Randy (Judy) Altenburger of Ottoville, and Dennis (Debra) Altenburger of Delphos; 8 grandchildren:  Brian (Wendy) Altenburger, Julie (Ben) Kolly, Jill (Brian) Wenzlick, Renee (Aaron) Burgei, Beth (Greg) Morscher, Jason Altenburger, Jena (Adam) Rostorfer and Jonathon Altenburger; 9 Great-Grandchildren:  Emma and Hannah Wenzlick, Andrew, Marissa and Tyler Kolly, Kara and Courtney Burgei, Evan Altenburger and Joshua Morscher; and 2 sisters:  Phyllis Krouse and Jo Ann Schlagbaum, both of Lima.
     She is preceded in death by 4 sisters:  Bernie (Charles) Heathman, Loretta (Kenneth) Roth, Tillie (Ralph) Spieles and Marie (Virgil) Kohlrieser; 3 brothers:  Vince (Coletta) Schlagbaum, Tony (Gertie) Schlagbaum and Ott (Norma) Schlagbaum; and brother-in-law:  Bob Krouse.
      Dorothy retired as a waitress from Jim’s Restaurant, Delphos.  She was a member Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and was a member of its Rosary Altar Society.  She was a member of the Ottoville VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  Dorothy was an avid golfer and was a member of the Delphos Country Club.  She enjoyed playing cards.  Dorothy loved her family dearly and enjoyed watching it grow to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
     Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Father John Stites officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township where a scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. and VFW Ladies Auxiliary service will be held at 6p.m.
