Life Story

Sarah Ann Lambert Little was the first child born to Oscar Harold and Sarah Novis Stewart Lambert on July 31, 1948. She was one of many cousins who lived near each other on the Natchitoches Highway between Many and Fort Jesup. Her mother's sisters, Olivia Carnline, Doris Faust, Lizzie Belle Carnline, and Audrey Malone all lived within a mile of each other, and their children grew up together and were very close.

Oscar and Novis were faithful members of Friendship Church of the Nazarene, and while she was still a very young baby, Sarah began attending with them...every time the doors were open. Her father, Oscar, was treasurer of the church, and her mother was a member of the Stewart Sisters, a gospel singing trio made up of Doris, Audrey, and Novis. Their beautiful family harmony was enjoyed often at the Friendship church as they were accompanied by Sarah's cousin, Frances Faust Hopkins, on the piano.

When Sarah was 4 years old, she was joined by a little brother, Robert Harold Lambert. A few years later, the family was completed with the arrival of baby brother, Philip Lockwood Lambert. By this time, Sarah was almost 7 years old. She claimed this new brother as her own baby and throughout her life, she seemed to have an extra-special love for her youngest brother.

Throughout her life, Sarah loved music. She had a nice soprano voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir, even leading it for a while.

After graduating from Many High School, Sarah decided to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at Northwestern State University. While she was in college, she met and fell in love with Hollis Leach. They were married when she was ____ years old.
