Obituary

The Lord God called Brett Andrew Thomas, from his home in Amherst to his final home in Heaven on August 14, 2022, freeing him of his broken body and granting him a new glorified one.  For the first time in his life he is able to talk, walk, and sing praises to God, his Heavenly Father.  Brett attended Murray Ridge School and the Lorain Workshop. He loved music, tv, and looking at all the colorful lights in his room.  Rarely would Brett be seen without his beautiful smile. Throughout Brett’s life he endured many life threatening medical events, yet despite physicians predictions of a shortened life Brett, by God's provision, would overcome and thrive.  God was always with him until the appointed time when He said it was time for him to come home.  Brett had many caregivers throughout his life allowing him to remain at our home until his eternal homegoing.  His recent caregivers were Andrea, Kathy, Katie, Laura, Marianne and Tracie.  They loved him and took exceptional care of him.  We could have never walked through this journey without each and everyone of our caregivers. Ray and Brenda Thomas, of Amherst were so blessed to have Brett as their son since his birth April 22, 1983 in Oberlin.  He brought pure joy to us each and every day.  We are going to miss his happy, smiling face until we see him again in Heaven.   Cory (Rebecca) Thomas of Westerville and Joshua (Morgan) Thomas of Elyria, loved their special older brother.  His nieces, Ryann and Noah Thomas, of Elyria, were delighted to visit their uncle in his cool room.  Lowell and Sally Whitt, of Wakeman, cherished their grandson and will miss him deeply. He will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins as well.  He was preceded in death by Paul and Ann Thomas, his paternal grandparents. Friends may call Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 46485 Middle Ridge Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . The Rev. Chris Reutepohler and Rev. David Chapman, will co-officiate.  Burial will follow at Cleveland Avenue Cemetery, Amherst. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Evangelical Free ℅ Children’s Department, 46485 Middle Ridge Road, Amherst, OH 44001. Please visit the funeral home's website to share a memory and sign the guest register. wwwhempelfuneralhome.com
