Obituary

Marian E. Garefino 62 died June 16, 1992 at her home after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Born and raised in Lambertville NJ, Marian was a devoted lifetime member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, its choir and its Altar and Rosary Society. She had retired from St. John’s Church Rectory in 1990 after 20 years of employment. Prior to working at the church rectory she was the secretary for the parish school for five years. A member and past officer of the school’s Parent and Teacher’s Association Marian volunteered countless hours to the school’s activities and to the Sisters of Mercy Nuns who taught at the school. She always made herself available to help the nuns in any way possible. A woman with an amazing singing voice she was asked to sing “Ava Maria” and other hymns at numerous weddings at St. John’s Church through the years. She also sang in many “Minstrel Shows” that were held both at St. John’s School Hall and St. Andrews Episcopal Church hall. Marian was a familiar face during local and national political elections serving on the election board in Lambertville’s 1st Ward.

Marian is survived by her husband Charles E. Garefino, Sr., by one daughter Kay and her husband Chris, one son Charles Jr. and his wife Jeanne, one sister Delores and her husband Fritz, her seven loving granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
