Robert Bernard Hopp
Dec.2, 1942 - March 20, 2021
Robert or Bob as everyone knew him by was born to the Parents of Bernard and Mabel Coop Hopp in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. At the age of six, his father came home from the war and said he wanted to go to Alaska. So he packed up the family and they headed North to Alaska where they settled in Anchorage, Alaska a Territory back then. Bob always told me that it was an adventure that he was glad that they all took. He learned to Hunt and fish with his Dad and Mom and had lots of stories. Bob would help build the family home and then a few more homes on a plot of land that his parents bought. Being young he got his first job as a paper boy and then gave his parents most of the money as they were starting out in business. Bob graduated from West High in 1961 and we enjoyed going to the 50th class reunion. Bob worked with his dad in well drilling and learned the business and then when Bernie became disabled, Bob worked in the drilling business at PHS and saved the company thousands of dollars with an idea that he had. He was awarded nicely for this idea. He drilled many wells around Alaska in many of the villages to the peoples delight. Bob spent a lot of time telling of his adventures around the state to anyone that would listen. I remember how he helped an elderly couple at the supermarket on the day before Thanksgiving, as they did not have enough money to pay for the dinner and the pumpkin pie. Bob stepped up and told the cashier to ring them up and he paid for the groceries and then ran to catch up with the couple and give them their items. He had such a good heart when it came to charity of people who needed help. Bob had a heart of gold and was the most gentle guy you would meet. Bob definitely was living the Dream.
He is survived by his wife Linda, children Eileen and Pete Neas along with their two boys Nathan and Keith and a great grand child, He is also survived by Philip Hopp and Eric Hopp. 3 Step children, Patrick and Elizabeth Riste and their 2 girls, Timothy Riste and Paul and Jessica Riste.
Grave side services will be held at the Anchorage City Cemetery June 2nd at 10 am.
