Obituary

My sister Susan was a powerful force, to be certain. Like the flow of water, she could be either refreshing or agitating. It wasn’t often that you would have to ask her opinion of something. You would be getting it shortly, no matter what it happened to be.

Those are some of the reasons I think we all loved her so much.

She would make you think in a different way about something you thought you were sure of. She was more confident about everything than most people are about anything. She wasn’t always correct, but at least she was sure of it. I could always turn to her for advice. She was always caring of others who needed a helping hand.

She was truly great at most everything she set out to do. Drawing, painting, the piano, cooking, and home decorating. Well, maybe not home decorating.

She had the sense of humor that required you to pay close attention, and still it might take a while to understand. Combined with the wit of a honey badger, she had the compassion of the mother of a newborn baby.

I would always brag to my friends about how cool my sister is. I loved introducing her to new people, just so that I could observe the conversation. I never knew which direction it would go, and she would always speak her mind. I loved the fact that if her view opposed the unsuspecting newcomer, they would immediately have to wise up or bow out of the conversation.

She will be missed terribly by all who fought the battle to get to know her well.

So many people come and go in life. Some are hard to remember just a year or two later. Susan was the person that will be remembered always and forever missed.

Our Grandfather on our Father’s side scribbled out the following on a sheet of paper the night he died:

Goodbye and goodnight
And I Hope as we part
That I part from your sight
But not from your heart.

Good night my little sister. I love you and I always will. You will stay in my heart until we meet again.
